How Wits scores you

Every university does this differently.

Checked against the official source

Wits APS

Wits counts your best seven subjects including Life Orientation, and the subjects your degree requires must be among them. Each subject scores 8 (90-100%) down to 3 (40-49%), and nothing below 40%. English and Mathematics get +2 from 60% up. Life Orientation scores only 4, 3, 2 or 1 for 90, 80, 70 or 60% and up.

This score means nothing at another university – it can’t be compared with any other university’s.

What we couldn’t confirm
  • Wits says Mathematical Literacy is considered for LLB, Education and Humanities. It names a bonus only for Mathematics, so we give Mathematical Literacy no bonus.

Checked against: Wits undergraduate entry requirements (opens the official page)

Could not be checkedWe do not calculate this

Wits Composite Index

Wits Health Sciences does not use APS. It uses a Composite Index of 75% school average across 5 subjects and 25% NBT - and Wits does not publish the cut-off scores.

We cannot work this out for you: it needs your NBT results, and Wits does not publish the cut-off you would be measured against.

This score means nothing at another university – it can’t be compared with any other university’s.

What we couldn’t confirm
  • Wits does not publish the Composite Index cut-off scores, so there is no number to measure you against. We do not calculate this.

What we couldn’t verify at Wits

We publish our gaps instead of hiding them.

verified

Wits APS table

Wits’s entry-requirements page was read in full on 2026-10-01: best seven subjects including Life Orientation, faculty-specific subjects must be included, 90-100% = 8 down to 40-49% = 3 and nothing below 40%, English and Mathematics +2 from 60%, Life Orientation 4/3/2/1. Two corrections to our first version: results below 40% score zero, and required subjects are forced into the seven.

could not verify

Health Sciences - Composite Index cut-offs

Wits Health Sciences uses a Composite Index (75% school average across 5 subjects, 25% NBT) rather than APS, and does not publish the cut-off scores at all. This is not a research gap we can close - the numbers are not public.

All rows sourced from the schools-liaison guide

The Wits schools-liaison Grade 12 guide is headed "prospective students for 2026". Every row resting on it alone is flagged in the product as a dated document. Each needs checking against its 2027 course-finder page.

Bachelor of Architectural Studies - APS

CONFLICT between two official Wits sources. The schools-liaison guide says APS 34+ with English 4 and Maths 4. The BAS application FAQ says minimum APS 29 with Maths 50% and English 50%. We show both and no number. Needs the School of Architecture to confirm.

BSc Mathematical Sciences - APS

CONFLICT: the 2027 course-finder page says APS 44+; the 2026 schools-liaison guide says 42+. We display 44 because the course-finder is the more recent official source, and the conflict is shown on the programme.
